THAILAND

Thailand is a country of hot sun, gentle sea and incredible drive. Spacious clean beaches, exotic vegetation and smiles of local residents leave tourists with great memories of their holidays in Thailand. There is a place on the coast for families with small children, party-goers, and sight-seekers - there are resorts in Thailand for every taste.

Why go to Thailand

Thailand is warm all year round, so many people prefer to spend the cool season here on the hot coast. Thailand is very diverse, with quiet, uninhabited corners, bustling party resorts and cozy little beaches. Among the resorts in Thailand, it is easy to find one that is suitable for a family with small children, and one that will appeal to a youth group, and a secluded corner where monkeys are more common than people.

This country has long been loved by Russian tourists for its distinctive culture, affordable prices and an active nightlife. There are nightclubs in almost every resort in Thailand, some islands (Phi Phi, Phangan) are famous for their noisy, unforgettable parties.

Weather

Thailand is a territory of eternal summer. Talking about the weather, they distinguish the dry season and the rainy season. The dry season lasts from November to March and is characterized by predominantly clear weather. This time is considered the tourist season. The temperature stays around +30 ° С, the water warms up to +27 ° С. It rarely rains, the sea is clear, and there are no strong waves. The rainy season in Thailand is from April to October. It gets hotter, there are frequent showers, the sea is stormy, although there are clear days. There are significantly fewer tourists in the resorts, lower prices for hotels and food. Surfers and windsurfers arrive at this time to catch the wave. The length of the seasons and their features may vary slightly depending on the resort. Exotic Thailand welcomes tourists all year round - both on tropical islands and on the mainland of the country, summer lasts endlessly. Wintering in Thailand has become a pleasant tradition for many. All year round it is warm here like in summer: during the day it is about +30 ° С, at night it is a couple of degrees cooler - no jacket is required. The weather at different times of the year differs primarily in the amount of precipitation and depends on the season, and there are two of them: dry (from November to March) and rainy (from April to October). This is true for all resorts located in central and southern Thailand (Pattaya, Phuket, Krabi, Chang and others). The exception is Koh Samui, where the dry season lasts from December to August and the rainy season from September to November.
In the northern regions of the country (Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son) it is just as hot during the day, and cool in the mornings and evenings: the thermometer drops at night to +15 ... + 20 ° С.
Daylight hours in Thailand lasts from about 6 to 18 hours. It dawns early and darkens early, but you can watch colorful sunsets.

Hotels

Thailand has a large selection of hotels. In the resort areas of Phuket and Pattaya, hotels of the category 2 or 3 stars are most often found. The hotel areas are small. The level of service is quite decent - the rooms have air conditioning, a bathroom, a refrigerator, a terrace or balcony (depending on the floor), a safe (may be at the reception). In Chang, Koh Samui and Phuket, you can choose accommodation in a bungalow. Most often, hotels only offer breakfasts, or breakfasts and dinners. The all-inclusive system is unpopular in Thailand, it can only be found in five-star hotels of major global chains. All hotels in Thailand (with rare exceptions) charge a deposit. This is a fixed amount for each day of stay or for the entire vacation period. The deposit can be paid in cash (baht only) or frozen on a credit card. The deposit is refunded before departure.
Hotels often have swimming pools, spas, massage rooms, beauty salons, a tour desk, and currency exchange.

Sights

In Phuket, it is worth attending a show featuring elephants, snakes and monkeys. Climb to the observation deck and see Phuket through the eyes of the Big Buddha. On excursions, you can learn to determine whether pearls are natural in front of you and buy jewelry at competitive prices; get to know the "sea gypsies".
Pattaya will not let anyone get bored. For those who like excursions, we recommend visiting The Million-Year Stone Park. Fossilized tree trunks resemble animals and birds, people and fabulous creatures. Animal lovers and families with children should visit Khao Kheow Safari Park and Siraca Zoo, where tigers live. The zoo is located in the open air. Of course, one cannot but honor the numerous temples of Buddha with their attention.
From Thailand, you can travel to neighboring Cambodia to see the legendary Ankor Wat, a temple complex lost in the jungle. The most convenient way to go on such an excursion is from Pattaya. Boat trips to the nearby islands are popular at all resorts, both one day and overnight. The program usually includes food, snorkeling, diving.

Nightlife lovers will not be bored either. Pattaya is famous for its nightlife. As soon as a hot southern night descends on a Thai resort, colorful lights flash on Walking street, music thunders from bars and restaurants, and night markets unfold their stalls. One of the famous brands of Pattaya, and of Thailand in general, is a transvestite show. The Alcazar Pattaya show and the Tiffany's Show can be attended with children, there is nothing indecent there, just all the roles in the show are played by men - just like the legendary Japanese kabuki theater.

National cuisine

Thai cuisine is one of the best in the world, and tourists call it one of the country's attractions, and this is no accident. Anyone who has once tasted authentic Thai food is looking forward to the next opportunity to enjoy tom yam soup, green curry, aromatic rice with chicken or seafood and other national dishes of Thailand.

In Thai dishes, a balance of five flavors is achieved: spicy, sweet, salty, sour and bitter. The blame for the burning spiciness of a large number of national dishes is the hot chili pepper, because its chef adds 20 times more to the dish than we can imagine. When ordering food in a restaurant in Thailand, be sure to ask the waiter to prepare the food without spices or with the addition of a small amount of spicy ingredients. We recommend that you look into restaurants where Thais themselves go - food in such establishments is cheaper, service is fast. When ordering dishes, say "not spicy" so that the amount of spices does not exceed the European limits of taste sensations.
Street food culture is popular in Thailand. Mobile trays - makashnits - offer hungry tourists spiced rice, noodles, grilled seafood, banana pancakes and other snack options. You should not be afraid to buy food in makashnits - because of its popularity, the food there is always fresh, and the prices are more than democratic. Fried cockroaches and grasshoppers are waiting for those who want to try something completely exotic.

Fruits

Fresh fruit is a must in Thailand. These are papaya, passionfruit and mango familiar to Europeans, and unknown pitahaya (pitahaya, dragon fruit), longan and mangosteen. And, of course, the king of fruits, durian, known for its indescribable aroma, from which people around the eater scatter in different directions.

Finding fresh fruits in Thailand is easy: there are a lot of them at the market bazaars, and in the restaurant you can order yourself ice cream with fresh fruit ... Many fruits are made into fresh juice and iced shakes. Just in case, bring allergy medication with you to Thailand.

Alcohol

There are no problems with alcohol in Thailand - it is also served in hotels during lunch and dinner, and is offered in the menu of numerous cafes. Most often, tourists drink local beer, in which Thais often put ice by default. If you are ordering beer in a glass, warn the waiter not to add ice to the bartender. Local beer is much cheaper than imported beer, by about half. Good fruit and berry wine is made in Thailand. Among the strong drinks among tourists, Thai whiskey Mekhong and rum Sang Som are popular. These drinks are inexpensive, but they are very far from the quality of the products of Scottish distilleries. Alcohol is sold at certain hours: from 11 am to 2 pm, and after 5 pm to midnight.

Customs and traditions of Thailand

The royal family is very fond of in Thailand. The birthdays of family members are celebrated as public holidays. The death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej hit the Thais hard, mourning for him lasted a whole year. Never say anything offensive to the royal family, even as a joke - the case can end in jail. The same applies to money - they have images of the king, so you need to handle them with care. Learn the rules of conduct in Thailand to help you avoid unpleasant situations. The state religion in Thailand is Buddhism, it is adhered to by the majority of the country's population, Islam and Christianity are also professed. Thailand has many beautiful Buddhist temples worth visiting. When visiting them, you must follow certain rules.

Phuket Big Buddha

Samui Big Buddha

It is customary to take off your shoes when entering the temple. You can not go inside in overly open clothing. The attendants will offer you to borrow or rent long clothes for free to cover exposed parts of your body. Women are not allowed to touch or talk to Thai monks. Thais trace their chronology since the death of Buddha (543 BC), so now they have a year 2561. Don't be surprised if you see this year on signs or in documents.
